As I mentioned before, photography is for me a way of telling stories. Each of my pictures tries to convey a story. Some of my pictures are black&white, some are in colors. Actually I use various types of equipment: a 30 yeaar old Rollei camera, an even older Kodak, a Nikon, a fix-lens Leica, and my favorite: my Leica M10 monochron. My smart phone - iPhone 11 plus pro -is also constantly with me.
I started out by planning a documentary about football (or you may want to call it soccer) in Afghanistan. There aren't any well-cured lawns, bright floodlights, or posh cars of the players. Youngsters identify themselves with the great players of Madrid, Bayern, Manchester United or Barcelona. Ethnicies - very often at the root of conflicts - don't matter. On the pitch, there are all the same. There are people like Askar Ali Lali, a former national player, team captain of the Afghan national team in the 70ies and coach of the national squad for some time, who works at grassroots levels, with boys and girls, to break down social stereotypes, to teach children to be tolerant, fair and positive through football. Trying to get the funding for the documentary has proven to be very difficult. And still is.
And since I am footbal/soccer fanatic I would like to do a documentary in Perú about the women playing a traditional type of female soccer.
And the Leica will always accompany me.
I have put together a few examples of my work during the past 20 years. So, take a look and let me know what you think ...
