Who am I?
Actually, this is a very good question, a question, which I posed myself several times - a day. Now, not that I am schizophrenic. But I think it is healthy to question yourself, if what you are doing is still in line with what you believe in. So, that's my daily routine and I can still live with myself and my family with me, actually a good sign!
I got to photography by simply wanting to do it. By birth I am German, by profesion I am a consultant working in developing countries. Well, I am not going to go through my CV now with you. I have gathered quite a lot of life experience: I have lived and worked in Israel and Egypt, when these countries still where at war, in West-Africa (still trying to forget the images of children and people dying of hunger), in East-Africa, where US-American hybrid-seeds are killing off harvests, in Jamaica where it was impossible to say who were the police and who the criminals, in Sierra Leone during the Civil War, in Afghanistan where detonations and exchange of gunfire 500 yards away from your home did not really create a stir anymore, in Guatemala where robbing a smart phone always involved looking at the muzzle of a gun. And in Havana, where the better part of my family lives and where Life is as slow as it can possibly get.
Bad news sell. Good news are no news, because good news don't sell. Okay, I am your good news seller. I will tell you in all of the turmoil about people who fight for their rights, their lives, for justice. And I - with my very humble means - will give them a forum. Whether they succeed or not. Their fight, their spirit are the good news.
